ESG assessments and reporting have the potential to unlock vast amounts of information about a company's long-term management and resilience, and can represent an important market-based mechanism to help investors align portfolios. This study aims to examine and analyze the performance of the ESG portfolio in Indonesia. The main contribution is to provide empirical evidence about portfolio selection based on ESG scores and associated with investment risk factors based on the CAPM five-factor model from Fama & French (2015) in Indonesia. The sample used is all registered financial or non-financial industries in Indonesia that have an ESG score for the 2018-2022 observation period. The research results show that the pre-covid period 2018-2019 and the 2020-2021 covid period portfolio investments with high ESG scores did not outperform portfolios with low ESG scores, but during the post-covid period in 2022 even portfolio investments with high ESG scores had abnormal returns, when evaluated using the CAPM five-factor and one-factor models.
Hendy Winanta Erni Ekawati Copyright (c) 2023 Management and Sustainable Development Journal https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 2023-11-30 2023-11-30 5 2 47 58 10.46229/msdj.v5i2.789 FINANCIAL PERFORMANCE OF HEALTHCARE SECTOR COMPANIES PRIOR AND DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC https://journal.shantibhuana.ac.id/index.php/msd/article/view/760
Every business must assess its performance over a time period to determine where it stands in relation to other businesses. The portfolios were formed and separated between bigger and smaller capitalization. Data analysis techniques consist of descriptive statistics and hypothesis testing with t-test and Mann-Whitney test to compare the performance. The test’s result reveals no significant difference in portfolio performance between value and growth stocks. The value portfolios have superior performance over growth portfolios, measured by Treynor and Jensen ratios, while the actual return and Sharpe ratios show the contrary. Moreover, the result of this study discovers that only growth portfolios for large companies have positive returns, which indicates that most of the stocks in Indonesia’s capital market respond negatively to the information that existed during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Chici Askotamiya Katarina Agnes Copyright (c) 2023 Management and Sustainable Development Journal https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 2023-11-30 2023-11-30 5 2 94 109 10.46229/msdj.v5i2.804
