Implementation of the Fishing E-Log Book Information System at the North Sumatra Maritime and Fisheries Service

The rapid development of information technology had permeated nearly all aspects of life, including the maritime
and fisheries sectors. The Fisheries and Maritime Affairs Office of North Sumatra Province utilized an e-log book information system to collect data accurately. This institution was responsible for
monitoring fishing activities, including fish catch data and operational locations. The use of physical log books by fishermen
to record their catches was often time-consuming and resulted in poorly structured data. The e-log book application was developed using Progressive Web App (PWA) and GPS methods to track the
locations of fishermen and their vessels, enabling accurate location information in reports. This system recorded and uploaded fish catch data, and also stored data offline. Thus, fishermen could fill out the log book at the fishing location using mobile devices and accurately record the fishing location, which helped in more accurate monitoring and reporting. The e-log book system for fish catch facilitated the accurate collection of data and the recording of fish catches, as well as their submission to the authorities by officials. The accuracy of fish catch data was crucial in supporting fish resource management, and the implementation of e-log book technology was an effective solution to improve the speed and accuracy of such data. Analysis of the gaps in the implementation of e-log book technology in Indonesia showed that the developed e-log book was adequate in terms of hardware, software, data communication (satellite and GSM/GPRS), and system integration.
